Why Tuna Croquettes?

  1. Quick and Simple Preparation: Tuna croquettes are incredibly easy to make, using ingredients you likely already have in your pantry. With butter, plain flour, eggs, milk, ground nutmeg, salt, pepper, and canned tuna, you can whip up these tasty treats in no time. The process is straightforward, allowing you to spend less time in the kitchen and more time enjoying the outdoors.
  2. Transport-Friendly: One of the biggest challenges of planning meals for picnics or beach days is finding food that travels well. Tuna croquettes are perfect for this. Once prepared and cooled, they hold their shape and texture, making them easy to pack in a lunchbox or picnic basket without the worry of them falling apart.
  3. Kid-Friendly: If you have picky eaters in your family, tuna croquettes are a great way to get them excited about meal time. Their crispy exterior and flavorful filling make them appealing to children, and the mild taste of tuna blends perfectly with the creamy and seasoned base. Pair them with a dipping sauce like ketchup or a homemade aioli, and watch them disappear!
  4. Versatile Serving Options: Tuna croquettes can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature, making them versatile for different settings. Serve them as a main dish with a side salad, or pack them as a handy finger food for an easy-to-eat snack. They also pair well with a variety of dips, so you can customise the flavours to suit your family’s preferences.

Tips for the Perfect Tuna Croquettes

  1. Consistent Size: Shape your croquettes evenly to ensure they cook uniformly. This helps in achieving that perfect crispy crust while keeping the inside moist and flavorful.
  2. Chill Before Frying: If you have a bit of extra time, chill the shaped croquettes in the fridge for about 30 minutes before frying. This helps them firm up and hold their shape better when cooking.
  3. Breadcrumb Coating: For an extra crunch, consider rolling your croquettes in breadcrumbs before frying. This adds a delightful texture contrast that kids and adults alike will love.
  4. Flavour Variations: While our classic recipe is delicious, don’t hesitate to experiment with additional flavours. Add a pinch of cayenne pepper for a bit of heat or mix in some finely chopped herbs like parsley or dill for a fresh twist.  If you have your own variations, please do let us know.  We love hearing from you and trying out fresh twists to classic foods.
