Road Maps and Mantras

As the New Year approaches once again many of us turn our minds to New Year Resolutions.  This time of year is the perfect time to reflect on the past and set intentions for the future.  Instead of merely jotting down resolutions, why not consider adopting road maps mantras instead.  One of our favourite mantras is “I plan for success and therefore I AM successful” after all, success is a journey, and planning is the road map that ensures you stay on course.

Define Your Goals

Before you consider what mantras will help you, start by clearly defining your goals and then break down your aspirations into manageable steps.  All too often we look at where we want to be at the end of the journey and getting there can seem overwhelming.  Setting realistic goals will make it more likely that you stay the course even when things start to get hard.  Milly and I have certainly learnt this over this last year especially since I usually want to run before I can walk!

Visualise Your Endpoint

What does success look like for you?  Visualise it vividly.  This is the mental image that will serve as your motivation during challenging times.  Keep this vision in mind as you plan your actions, aligning each step with that ultimate goal.

Be Consistent

Consistency is the backbone of success.  You need to set a plan that fits in with your daily life.  Small consistent efforts add up over time and you will often achieve more working in this manner than burning yourself out by cramming too much work into a small time frame.  It is important to understand that success is always built one step at a time and there can be no cutting of corners.

Accountability

Accountability is a powerful tool in your success toolkit.  Share your goals with someone you trust such as a friend, family member or mentor.  Check in with this person regularly as they can provide the external motivation you may be needing to ensure that you stay committed to your plan.

With Milly and I accountability has certainly been a big factor in getting over some of the hurdles we have faced over the last year.  As you know, when we launched The Opinionated Magpies neither of us had any IT knowledge whatsoever.  We also didn’t know how to use tools such as Canva.  SEO and similar terms may well have been Chinese!  There have been many times when one of us has felt that we simply could not continue.  Things were just simply too hard!  This is where accountability kicks in!

When you are accountable to somebody else and their dreams are interlinked with yours then you simply cannot give up.  When one of us is down or overwhelmed, the other inevitably rises to the occasion with a great pep talk or by taking up the workload.   When you have someone with whom you can share your worries or just sound things off with worries or obstacles always appear much easier to overcome.

Flexibility

Flexibility is key or so they say.  Those who know me well know that once I have my mind (or heart) set on something it is almost impossible to steer me away.  However, that is something else that I have learned on this blogging journey.  Plans do not always go to plan and sometimes you need to adjust your sails (or mindset) as circumstances change.  Instead of viewing these deviations as failures, see them as opportunities to learn and re-calibrate.  A successful journey is marked by adaptability and resilience.

Celebrate The Victories

The mind is a very powerful machine. It likes to highlight those things which you are not good at (yet!) Those things that maybe did not go quite to plan.  The things you have not yet achieved.  Sometimes, we are our own worst enemies putting ourselves down at every opportunity.  So, when a victory comes along, celebrate it, no matter how small.  Progress, however small, is still progress and acknowledging progress fuels motivations and reinforces positive habits.  Use these moments to reflect on your journey, refining your approach based on what works best for you.

Using Mantras

Once you have your roadmap, consider which mantras will help you achieve your goal.  Mantras are concise yet impactful statements that resonate with our personal aspirations.  They are positive affirmations that can significantly influence one’s mindset and help to foster a mental environment which is conducive to success.

When faced with a setback or difficult situation, a well-crafted mantra can help to inspire you to persevere with the task at hand.   Repeating a mantra during such moments of doubt or adversity can reignite your determination to achieve a particular goal.
